On 20th and 21st June, a group of our Year 9 and 10 students travelled to Ypres, Belgium, for a moving and memorable exploration of the First World War battlefields.
Throughout the trip, students visited key historical sites, including war cemeteries, museums, and memorials, gaining a deeper understanding of the sacrifices made during the Great War. Their engagement, respect, and thoughtful reflections were evident at every stop along the way.
A standout moment was visiting the grave of the youngest soldier to die in Flanders Fields, a poignant reminder of the personal stories behind the history. The experience was made even more powerful by hearing the Last Post performed beneath the Menin Gate, an enduring tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom.
Of course, the trip wasn’t without lighter moments too, including a much-enjoyed visit to a local Belgian chocolate shop!
We are incredibly proud of how our students represented the school, showing empathy, curiosity, and maturity throughout.
Lest we forget.
