We recently welcomed a fantastic group of prospective Year 12 students to Stantonbury for our Sixth Form Induction Day. The aim? To give them a real insight into life at Stantonbury Sixth Form—both in and beyond the classroom.
Throughout the day, students took part in a range of activities including taster lessons, team-building exercises, and study skills workshops, as well as learning about our ambassador roles and leadership opportunities. We asked them to reflect on their experience and share why Stantonbury might be their Sixth Form of choice in September.
Their responses were thoughtful, reflective, and inspiring. Here are some of the key themes that stood out:
A Welcoming and Calm Environment
Students repeatedly mentioned the friendly, supportive atmosphere. From the staff to our current Sixth Form students, visitors felt a warm welcome from the moment they arrived.
"I feel like I really fit in and everyone was so welcoming."
Lessons That Inspire
Taster sessions in subjects like Psychology, Sociology, Media, Criminology, and Business proved to be highlights of the day. Students described the lessons as engaging, realistic, and thought-provoking. Importantly, they appreciated the space to ask questions and get fully involved in their learning.
“The teachers really took time to explain things; it didn’t feel rushed or pressured.”
Planning for the Future
Many students are already thinking carefully about their next steps, and Stantonbury’s broad curriculum offer—combining academic and vocational options—stood out. Smaller class sizes, personalised support, and leadership opportunities were also frequently mentioned.
“I think I’d do better here, it feels like people actually notice you.”
Final Reflections
What shone through most clearly was that students are looking for more than just a place to study—they want to feel part of a community where they are valued and supported to grow in confidence.
“Before today, I wasn’t sure. Now I can picture myself here.”
As we continue our recruitment journey, it’s clear that the inclusive and supportive ethos of Stantonbury Sixth Form is making a meaningful difference.
