On Thursday 19th June, our Year 10 Geography students visited Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex as part of their GCSE fieldwork investigation. The trip aimed to enhance their understanding of coastal management and its impact on both natural processes and local communities.
Throughout the day, students worked in groups to gather a variety of data. Activities included measuring beach gradients and groyne heights, identifying vegetation types, completing detailed field sketches, and conducting surveys with local residents. These tasks were designed to help students collect accurate and reliable primary data for their coursework.
Despite the long coach journey, students demonstrated excellent behaviour and a strong commitment to their learning. The sunny weather made for ideal fieldwork conditions, and many students commented on how much they enjoyed applying classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
In the coming lessons, students will analyse and present their findings as part of their Geography studies. It was a valuable and engaging experience that brought the topic of Coasts to life.
